Rewriting fitness history time and time again

To us, producing the industry’s most innovative fitness equipment is a never-ending process. Just ask our Product Management and Engineering Team. It’s the industry’s largest and most diverse group of electrical, mechanical, and software engineers dedicated to asking the right questions and coming up with the right solutions: How are people using the products we currently make? How can we make their experience even better? What exercises and machines are on peoples’ wish lists? What are the cutting-edge trends just waiting to change the face of fitness?

Raise more questions and you raise the bar

This is how the legendary Lifecycle® bike originated. And FlexDeck® shock absorption system. And the Lifepulse™ heart rate monitoring system. But the innovations don’t stop with this list of industry firsts. The next big idea can pop up whenever and wherever: pumping iron at lunch, testing a prototype in the lab, traveling to a facility overseas, or during an in-depth conversation with a customer. Here’s a glimpse into one of many Life Fitness firsts:

LF Innovations 101

The Lifecycle® exercise bike was the world’s first computerized fitness equipment.
The FlexDeck® shock absorption system is the only treadmill cushioning system that reduces impact to users’ knees, joints, and back by nearly 30% compared to ordinary treadmill platforms.
Lifespring™ shock absorbers are the only treadmill shock absorbers built with the same polyurethane material used to make Corvette® suspensions and 240-ton mining vehicles. They are also the only treadmill shock absorbers guaranteed for life.
The Lifepulse™ heart rate monitoring system is the industry’s only system with Digital Signal Processing (DSP) which thoroughly analyzes the collected data and disregards any non-heart rate muscle signals. Non-digital (analog) readings can be off as much as 20-30 beats per minute.
ParaBody® Variable Arc™ Pressing Station allows both traditional and converging paths of motion for a variety of strength-training movements on select ParaBody gym systems.
Life Fitness Strength Cable Motion™ Technology is our one-of-a-kind, cable-driven design that allows you to easily define where you want to start and finish each repetition and how fast you want to move.
ISO 9001 Certification – Life Fitness was the first computerized fitness equipment manufacturer to reach this international standard so that our products are designed and built to meet consistent quality standards.

LF Case Study #24

Lifespring Shock Absorber

Our team conducted an exhaustive analysis of cushioning alternatives that wouldn’t breakdown as quickly as the hardened foam to rubber used on most competitors’ treadmills shock absorption systems. Their findings proved that a polyurethane material used to make Corvette® suspensions and 240-ton mining vehicles topped the list.

Guaranteed for life, this new material took the shape of individualized, oval shock absorbers that are installed just below the platform of our patented FlexDeck® shock absorption system found on all current Life Fitness Treadmill models.
